With the message "Let's give a hand to the Sea..." Stefano Pia, "KM 0" photographer from Mogoro (Oristano area) won the #CoastDayInSardinia Photography/Video contest which took place during the Coast Day on Instagram and Twitter from 25 to 29 September 2020.
The jury, composed of Gabriele Espis (naturalist photographer and AFNI Sardegna coordinator), Piera Pala (environmental lawyer and founding member of MEDSEA), and Giancarlo Gusmaroli (expert in aquatic ecosystems and water governance) motivates its choice of this wonderful photo among the excellent 63 multimedia contributions posted during the 5 days of the contest:
Our 1st Choice
STEFANO PIA @stefano_pia
The Jury: "The photographic mastery and the artistic sense of the performer, even in the use of black and white, put us inside the point of view of the sea, almost as if we were an underwater creature ourselves, for an intimate and essential experience. So as the message, capable also of its own life, when brought together with the photo, it generates in an original way a symbolism of immediate comprehension. Let's stretch out an arm and take care of the sea".
Stefano also won a GoPro Hero7 silver 10mp ultra hd 4k camera. Congratulations!
Special Mentions
The jury selected 3 other photos and authors who were able to convey the Coast Day message very well, giving them a Special Mention.
Let's find out who they are:
MIRKO UGO @mirko_ugo
The Jury: "This photo, together with its text message, in their essentiality tell a character trait of the sea in action. We are given a warning: let's observe the sea, its beauty and its power, a classroom where we can learn to live (with) it. The sea seen for its generative capacity, for the vitality it induces, for the respect it requires: all emotional pillars that our communities have partly lost and that we are called to recover".
Special Mentions
GIANLUCA FURCAS @luca_furcas_
The Jury: "The sea daffodil (Pancratium maritimum), a sign of resistance and resilience, captured in a photo with convincing technique. The coastal environment that wants to resist climate change and human impact. A message that also MEDSEA Foundation wants to communicate".
Special Mentions
DINA MELIS @dina.melis
The Jury: "A new generation walks towards the horizon (the future), with its feet on the shoreline that the sea continually shapes (the change), accompanied by a maternal intention (the care). Footprints on the sand that trace a course, the words of the mother that recall the responsibility of everyone. A photo not precise from a technical point of view, but evocative of a strong affective relationship, to be cultivated with care: that between us and the sea".
